Talk to the Author

This is a great strategy for factual texts in particular but I believe it would also work for fictional texts. Texts need to be relatively short (200 to 1000 words) and photocopied onto a sheet of paper leaving a wide margin in which students are able to write notes. Students are then taught how to make notes, comments or questions that they would like to make to the author in the margin (as it is not possible to talk to the author).
