Modelling

Modelling involves a teacher describing their thinking process out loud for the students to be able to follow (Norton 2007). Teachers must be aware that, even if unintentional, students are watching everything you do and will mimic what they see. To effectively use modelling techniques a teacher must be aware of what techniques we do automatically when reading (or in fact writing). Once we know what techniques we are doing automatically we can then explain them to students as we use them.

Modelling is something teachers are taught while studying however it is not until you are in a classroom and start to practise the skill that I believe teachers start to begin to develop this skill and find out how it works best for them and their students.
